To answer this question we launched the air quality monitoring network LUN Misto Air. LUN Misto is a non-commercial project, a part of UA IT company LUN. We're studying urban environment factors, among others — the air quality in UA cities.
Air pollution is the world's leading environmental health risk, according to the data of the World Health Organization.
Air pollution causes and exacerbates many diseases, ranging from asthma to cancer. It affects not only humans the respiratory system but almost every organ, including the heart and brain.
Suspended particles up to 10 microns like PM 1, PM 2.5, PM 10 are particularly harmful. PM 2.5 is 30 times smaller than the diameter of the hair — it can get into our lungs and even bloodstream.

What does the station consist of?

Plantower PMS 3003/5003/7003/A003 is a sensor for measuring PM 1.0, PM 2.5 and PM 10. Works on the basis of laser scattering, as in professional calibrated sensors. Used in devices that have been tested by the American program for evaluating the effectiveness of air quality sensors AQ-SPEC.
Bosch Sensortec BME-280 is a sensor for measuring temperature, humidity and pressure. Used in devices that have passed the AQ-SPEC test.

Mediatek MT7688A is the main computing core of the station. It is responsible for stable operation with WiFi, communication with sensors and data processing. It has a powerful processor for these tasks. Recommended by the manufacturer for the field of IoT.
The body of the stations were designed to comply as much as possible with the European Union directive. The chosen materials have the least impact on the performance of the sensors

WHY ARE OUR STATIONS AMAZING?
We convert air quality data to the AQI scale
The air quality index (AQI) is an index for reporting air quality on a daily basis. It was developed by the US Environmental Protection Agency, countries around the world are using it to identify levels of air pollution. The higher the AQI value, the greater the level of air pollution and the greater the health concerns.
We develop Air quality stations LUN Misto Air together with a team from the Faculty of Radio Physics, Electronics and Computer Systems of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (FREX).
We pay great attention to testing and involve experts from various fields for consultations. Our initiative is supported in particular by the Ecoimpact project of the European Union program.
The main goal for the LUN Misto Air team is to draw maximum attention to the air quality in our city and contribute to its improvement.
We make each station by ourselves. We carefully test each one. We monitor all data thoroughly. All for the sake of accuracy of indicators.
